NYSNA DEMANDS CONGRESS VOTE NO ON DANGEROUS BILL THAT WILL HARM MILLIONS OF NEW YORKERS

NYSNA Vehemently Opposes Budget Bill That Will Rob Healthcare, Livelihoods, and Futures from Millions of New Yorkers

New York, NY -- NYSNA nurses are deeply alarmed by the Senate’s decision to pass a harmful budget reconciliation bill that will deepen cuts to Medicaid and other healthcare programs, remove access to care for over a million New Yorkers, decimate hospital funding, kill jobs, and negatively impact all New Yorkers. This budget bill will ripple into every corner of our healthcare system and put lives at risk.

Congress’ proposed cuts will increase the number of uninsured New Yorkers by over a million, will increase health insurance premiums for all, and could lead to the loss of $13.5 billion in federal healthcare funding for New York. Hospitals are projected to lose close to $1.4 billion statewide, which will increase costs, put hospitals at risk of closure, and result in the loss of thousands of jobs. These numbers could also mean potential increases in maternal mortality, deepening social inequalities, and gutting of our state budget and local economies. This decision affects the livelihoods, the health and safety of our communities, and the future of the next generation.

The U.S. House of Representatives now has the opportunity to vote down this disastrous bill. NYSNA nurses and healthcare professionals join the majority of constituents to demand Congress stop the assault on our communities and the largest transfer of wealth in this country’s history from working and middle-class people to millionaires and billionaires. NYSNA demands New York’s Republican members of Congress vote NO on this bill.
