NYSNA Statement on ICE Shooting in Marble Hill, New York City

The New York State Nurses Association released the following statement in response to the ICE shooting on Oct. 8:

NYSNA nurses are horrified that armed ICE agents fired multiple shots at an unarmed man with a five-year-old child on a busy afternoon near schools and businesses. This reckless and potentially deadly action endangered many lives. ICE has no place on our streets or in our hospitals.

The man who was shot was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Allen Hospital, where he received dignified care from dedicated union nurses. Although there was no continued ICE violence inside the hospital, their presence in the hospital has an intimidating and harmful effect on all patients and hospital staff. Nurses are in solidarity with our immigrant healthcare workers, patients and communities and call for ICE to cease its activities in New York City and state.
