NYS Legislature Passes New Workplace Violence Protections

Last December, Gov. Hochul signed into law an amendment to the New York State Health Code requiring all general hospitals and nursing homes to develop workplace violence prevention programs. 

Unlike the Public Employee Safety & Health’s (PESH) Workplace Violence Protection Programs regulation, which covers all public sector workplaces, this law will cover both public and private general hospitals and nursing homes.

Also note, nothing in this law supplants or diminishes any rights under union nurses' collective bargaining agreements. Learn more about the new law, including its requirements for general hospitals and the implementation timeline, by reading the latest NYSNA Health & Safety Alert.

Seasonal Flu Update: Dec 2025

At this time the majority of hospitalized cases for respiratory illness throughout the state are flu-related. Both reported flu cases and flu hospitalizations have risen dramatically over the past 2 weeks, according to the NYS Department of Health.
