NYC Health + Hospitals recognized the extraordinary career of NYSNA retiree Irmatrude Grant, RN, by dedicating the pediatric division of its East New York Health Center in her honor. A plaque featuring “The Irmatrude Grant Pediatric Division” with Ms. Grant’s photograph and biography now hangs outside the second floor entrance to the unit.

The dedication ceremony took place on the afternoon of February 17, when NYC Health + Hospital executives, nurses, physicians and board members gathered to honor Ms. Grant with this special recognition. Their remarks offered personal testament to the many, many lives that Ms. Grant touched during her remarkable career.

Ms. Grant was taken by surprise by the whole event. “They invited me to come by the center but didn’t tell me why. The dedication was totally unexpected and a very happy occasion for me.” The dedication ensures that Nurse Grant’s contributions to the public health clinic where she spent four decades of her career will be remembered and celebrated.

Ms. Grant’s retirement after 54 years of nursing and community service was profiled in the December/January issue of NY Nurse. Although officially retired, she is still active volunteering as chairwoman of the Brooklyn Perinatal Network and with the American Red Cross.
