NYSNA Statement on One Brooklyn Health Service Closures

In response to news that services at One Brooklyn Health’s Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center are slated to close in Nov. 2023, NYSNA released the following statement:

"From the very beginning of the plan to merge Central Brooklyn healthcare facilities into One Brooklyn Health (OBH), NYSNA nurses have advocated to retain the essential healthcare services that our patients and communities need and to keep facilities open for care. We are disappointed by the news that more services will close, including the ED and acute rehab beds, which were never part of the original OBH plan or Certificate of Need process. Although there is a big recurring deficit, any closures must be weighed against the needs of the community and their potential impact on quality care at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center overall and the co-located Rutland Nursing Home. These closures violate the spirit of the original plan that unions and elected officials agreed to years ago, and we implore OBH and the State of New York to explore other funding options before taking this drastic step."
