We are horrified at the terror unfolding in Pittsburgh that has left multiple dead and more wounded. As New York nurses, we recognize and value all ethnicities, races, and religions. There is no place for vile racist and anti-semitic hatred in our society and we must stand united against it.

We express our full support and gratitude to the first responders on the scene for providing assistance and protection to the victims. We are deeply saddened to learn that some of those affected are police officers and we especially mourn for the families who have lost a loved one in this tragedy.

We oppose all gun violence and are committed to ending it. Please see our position on gun violence here

We need to come together as a country and reject all violent and hate laced rhetoric which demonizes any group based upon race, ethnicity, religion, gender, or sexual orientation.

In the words of the immortal Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."
