Our campaign for safe ER care in the Bronx is making headlines! We've been in the Daily News, the Bronx Times and on News12 speaking out for Bronx patients.

“Every Bronx patient deserves access to safe, quality care,” New York State Nurses Association president and Montefiore ER nurse Judy Sheridan-Gonzalez told the Daily News. “As ER nurses we know that long wait times, overcrowding and placing admitted patients in hallways can jeopardize lives.”

NYSNA's Montefiore-Weiler LBU President Karine Raymond, RN, explained the some of the impacts of ER overcrowding on patients. “Packed into the Emergency Room like sardines. There’s no privacy,” she told News12. Watch the full News12 segment here.​

Montefiore’s response? Seek care elsewhere if you don’t want to deal with overcrowding and long wait times. At least that's what they told the Bronx Times. 

But patients who are spending the night in the hallway deserve a real solution. Here’s an excerpt from the Bronx Times report:

Besides the long wait times, patients and nurses have reported that the facility is so cramped that some patients spend the night on gurneys in the hallway.

“We need to hold their feet to the fire,” said Judy Sheridan-Gonzalez, president of the New York State Nurses Association. “We know there are places where beds can be opened [in Weiler], so our patients don’t have to languish in hallways and on stretchers cramped in the emergency department.”
