NYSNA President Judy Sheridan-Gonzalez, RN, testified on June 19 at a hearing before the United Nations Special Committee on Decolonization. Created in 1961 by the General Assembly of the United Nations, the Special Committee is charged with the purpose of monitoring implementation of the UN Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples, and to make recommendations on related issues and concerns.
The U.S. territory of Puerto Rico is facing a dire financial crisis, which has decimated its healthcare delivery system and population. President Sheridan-Gonzalez spoke about the island's healthcare issues. Her testimony can be viewed HERE.
